Mountain Biking
Boasting some of the best mountain biking trails the Western Cape has to offer, Elgin is a bucket-list destination for cyclists.
With a good mix of terrain, flow and length, the region also hosts a leg of Africa's most gruelling mountain bike race: the ABSA Cape Epic.
Oak Valley is open during daylight hours, throughout the year. The trails are top-rated, and they offer bike wash and shower facilities. Their courses were pioneered by legend Pieter Visser, who designed the routes to accommodate all skill levels.
Paul Clüver is also a playground for mountain bike enthusiasts. You can either enjoy the play park nestled amongst the fig trees or venture out on a selection of routes. The blue routes are undulating trails of jeep track.
South Hill Vineyards offers a 3.2km track, suitable for both walkers or mountain bikers to explore and enjoy.

The Elgin Wine Route represents wine producers from one of the newer viticultural areas in the southern Overberg district.
The high-lying ward of Elgin, traditionally an apple-growing region, sits on an inland plateau, surrounded by mountains, only 10km from the Atlantic Ocean.
Almenkerk Wine Estate is a true family Estate. Owned by the Belgian /Dutch van Almenkerk family it is run by Natalie and Joris van Almenkerk. They are bon-vivants and part of their mission statement is to have loads of fun while making wine!
Iona Wines balances a unique combination of the short distance from the freezing Atlantic Ocean and the rapid increase in altitude that causes the prevailing South East Wind to roll across the property and down into the Elgin Valley.
Elgin Vintners is located on the Elgin Orchards farm, in the heart of the Elgin Valley, which dates back to 1890. The property is surrounded by the Kogelberg Biosphere – a world heritage site.
